Let’s Talk Renaissance – First Week Streaming Analysis
Beyonce’s latest album “Renaissance” was released on July 29 and features 16 tracks with Dance, House and Disco influences, which were already teased in the lead single “BREAK MY SOUL”, released on June 21. We checked how this conventionally rolled-out dancefloor album measures up in terms of streaming numbers in the first week after its release.
“BREAK MY SOUL” brought Beyonce the biggest spike in Spotify listeners since her feature on the remix of Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage" in April 2020, as seen in the graph below (she gained 13.4M monthly listeners in the first four weeks after the single’s release).

According to Spotify streams in the last month, the song currently ranks at #10 among fresh releases (songs released in the last three months). Songs from Bad Bunny’s album “Un Verano Sin Ti”, released on May 6, dominate the top positions – apart from “Glimpse of Us” by Joji at #2 and “Left and Right” by Charlie Puth featuring Jung Kook of BTS at #6.
Among songs released in the last year, “BREAK MY SOUL” ranks at #17 according to streams in the last month, while Harry Styles’ “As It Was” is #1. And if we include older releases and catalogue music, it slips to #22, as songs like the Stranger-Things-boosted “Running Up That Hill” and “Master of Puppets” are still raking in Spotify streams.
Beyonce’s playlist reach increased massively after the release of the single (+172M in the first week). Before the album release, the momentum had already slowed down, but picked up again in the first week of the “Renaissance”.
“BREAK MY SOUL” is currently Beyonce’s top Spotify track according to playlist reach, with the top 10 also including classics like “Crazy in Love” and “Halo”. Looking at the average position of the tracks, we see that the newest ones are positioned at the beginning of playlists, meaning they are more likely to get played – check the longtail-like visualization below.
The “Renaissance” album makes up most of Beyonce’s current best-performing tracks according to Spotify streams in the last 7 days. See the details in the graphic below.
“BREAK MY SOUL”, an ode to The Great Resignation, didn’t break the streaming platforms, but we’ve yet to see how Beyonce’s latest (conventional) album roll-out will compare to her previous (visual) albums.
