We put the largest verified music database of artists, festivals, tracks and playlists to work and found that Electronic was the fifth most streamed genre on Spotify in 2021. Electronic playlists placed third according to the number of followers, regularly reaching more than 100 million listeners.
Electronic artists remain most successful on SoundCloud, as they make up 38% of the top analyzed artists. It’s also interesting to note that Electronic was the third most played genre on radio worldwide, falling in between Rock and Country music.
There were many outstanding performances in terms of online buzz, but Kungs made the most of 2021 in the Electronic genre.
The French Dance artist was already on the radar, but in 2021 alone, he was streamed over one billion times and got more than 40 million YouTube video views, recording one of the biggest surges in popularity in the genre. The top three breakthrough acts according to popularity also include Sickick and Imanbek, while Mareux (14 million streams), Ape Drums (39 million streams) and Acraze (91 million streams) are the names we’ll be keeping an eye on in 2022.
