The Netherlands' annual Strange Sounds From Beyond electronic music event included some of the most gifted and creative artists in the field. Saint Clara, whose hypnotic vocals and throbbing beats left the audience in amazement, Young Marco, whose eclectic style ranged from house and techno to disco and world music, and Lulu, whose creative soundscapes and poignant melodies captured the audience, were among the best performers.
Mdou Moctar dazzled with his dazzling guitar playing and distinctive fusion of West African folk and psychedelic rock, while Joy Orbison brought his famous blend of dubstep, house, and techno to the stage. The Hacker performed a high-intensity set of electro and techno, and Mykki Blanco wowed the crowd with their stirring lyrics and energetic performance.
Letta Mbulu's beautiful vocals and contagious rhythms, Bbymutha's ferocious and unapologetic lyricism, and Laraaji's sublime ambient compositions all helped to make Strange Sounds From Beyond's roster unique and unforgettable. Everyone who visited the event felt it was a celebration of imagination, exploration, and community.
